LIGHTNING PROTECTION FOR THE DIGITAL AGE
Available at Alpha Process Sales - TX & LA & Murray Energy - Texas
For over 45 years, LEC has been providing advanced lightning protection systems worldwide. The systems LEC designs, manufactures and applies do not provide the traditional Franklin Rod protection schemes. Rather, we take the view we should avoid the strike, not collect it.
LEC's name is somewhat of a misnomer; LEC does not eliminate all lightning. LEC's Charge Transfer System (patented as the Dissipation Array System or DAS) uses a naturally occurring, scientific phenomenon called point discharge to retard the collection of lightning within a finite protection zone. LEC does not attract the lightning. LEC's system lowers the static field in the protected area long enough for the lightning strike to terminate outside the protected area. The DAS is engineered to the specific application or site.

LIGHTNING FEATURED PRODUCT
COMPREHENSIVE LIGHTNING STRIKE PROTECTION FOR FLOATING ROOF TANKS
Pre-Tensioned: The RGA 750 is pretensioned at the factory, so no on-site tensioning is required.
Corrosion Resistance: New aluminum cable* originally developed for marine use greatly improves corrosion resistance and is highly resistant to hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
Easy-to-Install: Installation takes only two hours on both new and existing tanks.
Effective: Permanent, reliable, low-impedance bond prevents fires triggered by lightning currents.
Durable and Low Maintenance: Engineered for years of durability and reliable performance in corrosive environments and requires virtually no upkeep as compared to shunts.
Standards Conformant: The RGA conforms to both API 545 and NFPA 780 recommendations and meets the API 545 requirements for a bypass conductor.
The ATEX approved and patented RGA substantially reduces the risk of tank fires by subduing sustained arcs during lightning events and other electrical phenomena. The RGA does this better than other traditional methods for bonding floating roofs because the retractable cable is always at the shortest possible length. The resultant low resistance and impedance results in too low of a voltage to sustain the arc, i.e., no fire.

LIGHTNING PREVENTION
DISSIPATION ARRAY® SYSTEM - DAS®
LEC lightning protection products include LEC's patented Dissipation Array System (DAS) which prevents direct lightning strikes by reducing the electric field to below lightning-collection levels, within the protected area. As a result, the DAS lightning protection systems help to prevent downtime and loss of assets, while increasing lightning safety for personnel.
SBI - SPLINE BALL IONIZER®
The SBI from Lightning Eliminators is a modular lightning prevention component used to supplement Dissipation Array installations, and as the first line of defense for structures that require lightweight protection with a low wind profile.
Like the Dissipation Array System (DAS) the SBI is based on over 25 years of research & development and utilizes similar technology to reduce the risk of direct lightning strikes at the protected site.
SBT® - SPLINE BALL TERMINAL®
The Spline Ball Terminal from Lightning Eliminators offers a superior alternative to standard air terminals for new or existing lightning protection systems.
Unlike traditional lightning rods designed only to collect, the SBT is engineered to both reduce the risk of direct strikes and function as a highly efficient air terminal.
SDAT - STREAMER DELAYING AIR TERMINAL
The LEC SDAT from Lightning Eliminators offers an inexpensive alternative to standard air terminals for new or existing lightning protection systems.
Unlike traditional lightning rods which are designed only to collect strikes, the LEC SDAT is designed to delay upward streamer generation, reduce the risk of direct strikes, and function as a highly efficient air terminal.

IPE® - IN-TANK POTENTIAL EQUALIZER®
Charge Mitigation for Non-Metal & Lined Storage Tanks Containing Flammable or Combustible Liquids
The problem of internal electrical discharges and the subsequent ignition of the vapors inside tanks containing flammable or combustible liquids is becoming more widespread as the use of non-metal and lined tanks proliferates. These types of tanks are often used to store and separate the produced water and other products from hydraulic fracturing and other processes. Because these products can be highly corrosive, the tanks are often made of either corrosion resistant materials, such as fiberglass or PVC, or internally-lined steel, where the lining is a non-conductive material such as epoxy.
During normal operation, the tanks accumulate flammable or combustible vapors inside the tank above the fluid level. These vapors may then be ignited by an electrical discharge inside of the tank. The discharge can be caused by an accumulation of static electricity inside the tank or by a direct or nearby lightning strike. A lightning strike will cause several indirect effects to rapidly occur including: ground current transients, changes in the electric field surrounding the tank, and changes in the ground potential. Any of these effects could then trigger an electrical discharge inside the tank.

GROUNDING / EARTHING
Chem-Rod® - Low-Impedance Chemical Grounding Electrode
The Chem-Rod solves problems found with conventional ground rods by requiring less
real estate and fewer electrodes to meet specified resistance.
Each Chem-Rod creates an optimal electrical connection to earth with a large conductive surface. The earth/electrode interface is further enhanced by conductive backfill and electrolytic salts, ensuring a consistent path to ground. Engineered to meet applicable design and safety standards, the Chem-Rod is uniquely suited for both general grounding and as the foundation of a complete lightning protection system.
LECWELD® - Weld Metal
LECWELD Weld Metal is a mixture of copper oxide and aluminum formulated to obtain an exothermic union of highest quality for the following applications:
Between copper and copper
Between copper and steel
Between copper and copper clad steel
LECWELD Weld Metal is an easy and efficient field welding system, requiring no outside power source or equipment. The process forms a solid copper molecular bond that does not loosen or corrode throughout the life of the host structure. Compared to compression connectors, split bolts, crimp connectors, brazing, etc., LECWELD is clearly a superior choice.
Grounding Augmentation Fill (GAF)
Grounding Augmentation Fill (GAF) is a lightning protection product from Lightning Eliminators that is specially formulated to help create a low resistance earth interface, making it easier and less expensive to prevent lightning damage.
SMART GROUND® TESTING
Smart Ground is a lightning protection solution designed to provide an advanced ground audit system that produces highly accurate results, even on energized systems.
